In praise of footnotes!

This will just be a really short article, I’ll be using way more footnotes in my blog articles, that’s basically it. Have a nice day!
A while ago, I was bored, walked to the local library and picked a fiction book at random since I didn’t know what genres I liked1 Luckily I landed on “The Truth Commission” by Susan Juby, I never managed to finish the book but one thing that I really, really loved was the footnotes. Susan would just put whatever she wanted, it’d make me laugh, it’d give me more insight into the story being told, it would just be all around marvelous! I highly recommend this book just for the footnotes alone, if not the story!
Later on that month, I came across Ludicity’s “I Will Fucking Piledrive You If You Mention AI Again”2, which also happens to creatively make use of footnotes to add more personality to the writing and well…
I guess that kind of thing just sort-off rubbed off into my writing, because now I’m using footnotes without even noticing! I’m using them in the places where I want to add an “Oh by the way…” or just a bit of humor without disrupting the flow of the article. Previously, I’d use parenthesis for this but I was forced to keep my remarks really short or else it would completely destroy the flow of the article, and I’d sound as though I was rambling.
Anyway here’s the footnotes to this blog post, have fun3

I still don’t know what genres I like! I could probably use one of those fancy book recommendation sites, which track what book you’re reading but come on! We’re already being surveilled way too much, stop making me give up more information! ↩︎

For some reason I keep on misspelling the blog’s name as “Lucidity”, my brain is fried lol. Anyway, I highly recommend the complimentary articles I Will Fucking Dropkick You If You Use That Spreadsheet and I Will Fucking Haymaker You If You Mention Agile Again ↩︎

DO ACTUALLY READ THE TRUTH COMMISSION THOUGH ↩︎
